Ross Murdoch Ross Murdoch served an apprenticeship in Scott Lithgow Shipbuilders on the Lower Clyde as a Welder. He left Scott Lithgow in 1979 and subsequently worked in Railway Engineering, then Vosper Thorneycroft Shipbuilding until 1999. Ross then moved into teaching and worked in trade union education delivering the core TUC programme and other affiliates programmes such as TGWU, CWU, Unison, FBU and USDAW. During this time, he was a Branch Secretary and Southern Region Executive member for the education union NATFHE (now the University & College Union UCU). Ross began working for GMB in 2005, going on to become a National Officer in 2017. He has been an active member of the trade union and labour movement since starting work in the shipbuilding industry, predominately with GMB as Convener in the Railway and Shipbuilding industries, he has also undertaken roles within his local trades council. Ross Murdoch has been involved with the CSEU as a delegate from the 80’s to the Area 5 Committee and went on to become Chair of this Committee before taking on the GMB National Officer role and CSEU National Chair for Maritime in 2017.
